DOROTHY B. FEREBEE, CLASS OF 1920
During the teens, Simmons College awarded its first Master of Science degree; the School of Social Work (which becomes a sole Simmons institution in 1916) began offering a Master’s Degree in addition to the baccalaureate. The Prince School for Store Service Education was launched. In 1910, the first known black student, Lydia Brown entered Simmons College. The class of 1915 had two additional black undergraduates - Leanna Francis Johnson and Marion Reed. The class of 1920 had Dorothy Boulding Ferebee of Boston and Helen Ripley of North Chelmsford bringing to eight the number of known black students attending the College since its inaugural year.
