A Century of Struggle:
Portraits of Pioneers

THE TEN DEMANDS

In May 1969, the Black Student Organization presented its "Ten Demands" relating to changes in the curriculum, faculty, student body, and financial aid. The demands were accepted and a framework for achieving its goals was established. The College enters a new epoch of inclusion, diversity and broadened academic range. Throughout the sixties, thirty black students graduate from Simmons, the highest number to date in any decade.

The exhibition is accompanied by a video, THE POWER OF OUR PRESENCE, that explores the history of African Americans at Simmons College.
